All about the Gators
What is the Glen Abbey Gators Swim Team?
It is a community-oriented summer recreation team committed to a positive, fun and high-quality experience for swimmers ages 4-18. We have seven weeks of daily practices beginning mid-May; fun social events like Splash Night and an Awards Banquet; five swim meets in June; and “Fun Fridays” after meets to celebrate with ribbons and donuts.
Who should join the swim team?
- Any Glen Abbey swimmers ages 4-18, as well as swimmers from nearby neighborhoods that do not have a swim team.
- All swimmers must be able to swim independently and have general knowledge of the basic swim strokes. Swim team is not swim lessons.
- Children 10 and under must be able to swim one length of the pool without holding onto the side of the pool or the lane ropes by the end of the first two weeks of practice.
- Children 11 and up must be able to swim two lengths of the pool by the end of the first two weeks of practice.
My child is only 4 but loves to swim – should we join? Yes! We will continue our Hatchlings pre-team swim group for children ages 4-6 who cannot yet swim laps independently but can keep themselves safe in the water. This pre-team will have daily 30-minute practices but will not compete in meets. Learn more at glenabbeygators.swimtopia.com/hatchlings.
What if we’re out of town on a meet date? We know families travel this time of year! While we would love for your swimmer to be at all practices and meets, please join us and attend when your schedule allows.
Where can I learn more? Explore this site, the registration packet, or email Kelly Martin and Leslie Tranter at [email protected]. Additionally, new families will be invited to a ‘Meet the Coaches and General Information’ event in mid-May.
